Whether building or remodeling, the demographics tell us a lot about what we'll be working on in the very near future. Retirement age used to be defined as "Senior", but in the US it's more likely to be 70 and up.

Baby Boomers (age 57-75) are still setting the trends. In 20 years, 50% of households will be headed by individuals 65+, a whopping 23% of the population. 79% of those will still own their own homes, many of them will still be working and a growing number are living alone.

What's important to these seniors? 1) Staying in their own home and 2) keeping as much independence as possible. How do we plan for this shift? We've brought you two contractors who will share their experience and insights to help you consider how this will affect your business. They'll cover:

  • What features to include in your next build/remodel
  • Safety concerns
  • Requirements for accessible bathrooms
  • Adaptable kitchen designs
  • Cost benefits of moving wall
  • Cool gadgets to help Seniors stay in their own homes

Jim Ford is a licensed General Contractor and has been remodeling and building new construction since college (didn't ask him how long ago that was). He comes from three generations of carpenters and woodworkers and along with his partner, Andrea Hurst, have just finished and sold their first flip!! Jim has a degree in psychology which makes him easy to work with and is a pro at listening to your vision

Ken Hagerty is the owner of Arkansas Security, one of the top retailers in the state for alarms and surveillance cameras. A seasoned investor himself, Ken knows what investors need when building or remodeling. A member of all NWA Chambers of Commerce, Springdale Rotary, he is our guy with the coolest gadgets for safety and security on the jobsite and in the home.

We love to hear from new people as well as our members.

Let us know what's on your mind or what you'd like to see at REI NWA.
