Due diligence is preached in purchasing right, but is due diligence to stop there? Any remodeling project or ground up developing takes a lot of time and effort to complete. And therefore, lots of hands on the project. And often the project owner might not expect to face a surprise like this when one of these extensions to the project places a mechanic's lien on their property.
A mechanics lien — also known as a construction lien or a supplier’s lien — gives the contractor or supplier the right to seek payment from the property owner when compensation does not appear to be paid. We will hear from Darren tips for keeping your money in the bank when it comes to liens:
· Understanding the involuntary liens
· What is difference on residential and commercial mechanical liens
· How far removed from the project/property work a lien can be filed
· Timelines to be aware of regarding mechanical liens
· Create good facts and documents for protection to fight liens
